What happens when you combine live performances of Shakespeare with snacks and adult beverages? It's essentially a return to the way the Bard's plays were enjoyed originally.
Today, Shakespeare's works are considered serious things. Audiences are mostly respectful and reserved. But Kelby Siddons with Tallahassee's Southern Shakespeare Company said things were VERY different when those plays were first staged.
"Historians will tell you that the Globe Theatre in Shakespeare's time was a really lively, often boisterous, place. Groundlings were jostling in the pits, munching on snacks, cheering at players. And so what we're doing is taking Shakespeare between three venues."
Namely, three Tallahassee bars: Proof Brewpub, Hummingbird Wine Bar and the Hayward House with ticketholders traveling via chartered shuttle. Southern Shakespeare's Second Annual Bard Crawl happens Friday and Saturday, September 27th and 28th.
