Felines and fantasy fuel the many topics of Marina Brown's latest literary outing

A Tallahassee writer has tackled the short story format in her latest work. Marina Brown - who's also a celebrated visual artist - says her 20 tales for grownups include a fable about three very talented cats.

The name of that story is "The Gentlemen of Verona." Brown says an A-I generated portrait of the feline trio, dressed in Edwardian splendor, appears on the cover of the book.

"I'd written the story, and then I figured these cats should have a prominent place. It seemed to work just perfectly with the theme. And the cats look like they know something, and one finds in the story that they know a lot."

Brown may even disclose some of those secrets this Thursday evening, Aug. 15 at Midtown Reader starting at 6:30 p.m.

"We'll gather there for some refreshments and I'll read from the book and hopefully make people laugh and think and share 'The Gentlemen of Verona' with them."

Midtown Reader is a regular underwriter of WFSU Public Media.
