Florida's primary election is August 20th. Leon County's various early voting sites opened for business the morning of Saturday, Aug. 10th.
Eagerly awaiting the 8 a.m. early voting start at the county courthouse was the county's Supervisor of Elections Mark Earley.
"We've got 5 or 6 people waiting for the doors to open, which happens - maybe - right now. Yeah, there they go; the first voters going in," he remarked as the doors were unlocked and the first group of voters ushered inside.
And even though November's general election gets most of the attention, Earley said the August 20th primary is equally important.
"We've got a lot of non-partisan races on the ballot and a lot of races this election that will be decided this election and not going to the general. So we'd really like the public to pay attention and get out and vote in this election."
Early voting continues through Sunday, August 18. Those sites are also secure locations for dropping off vote-by-mail ballots.
