The Tallahassee Fire Department is now short 21 firefighters. As Margie Menzel reports, the latest resignation comes as the city and the local firefighters’ union remain locked in a bitter contract dispute.

Local union president Joey Davis says the department will have to hire 57 people altogether. That includes firefighters who've left, and another 36 that will be needed to staff the new fire station slated for Lake Bradford Road.

The city says the new station will help reduce response times to within National Fire Protection Association standards in a currently underserved area that experiences more than 5,000 service calls annually.
