Recovery efforts continue in Leon and surrounding counties following last Friday’s tornado outbreak. In the wake of the storm damage and power outages, many local residents are finding their food supplies running low. The area’s social service hotline, 2-1-1 Big Bend, says its fielding calls on variety of needs like housing, mental health services and food, with the latter quickly becoming the top priority and concern of callers. On average, 211 says it receives about 2,000 calls per month. Since the May 10th storms, it’s received 1,000 calls per day.
Below is a list of some of the upcoming food distribution and local social service resources.
Breakfast with the Tallahassee Urban League and Salvation Army

Time: 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. for a free community breakfast. Breakfast will be served for one hour, and community members may walk through or drive through.

Bethel Missionary Baptist Food Distribution
Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and the World Vision Ministries will be distributing Disaster Relief Supplies Friday, May 17, 2024, at 10:00 AM.

Farm Share Distribution
Farm Share, Florida’s leading food nonprofit and the state’s largest food bank, will distribute food in the impacted community. The food distribution will take place on Saturday, May 18, at the Leon County Health Department from 8:00 a.m., while supplies last.

United Way Donation Site
The United Way of the Big Bend is accepting donations for disaster relief. Among the most requested items are personal items such as children’s diapers and pullups, adult diapers and baby formula, cleaning supplies and general use items like batteries, candles and flashlights. Donations can be dropped off at 307 E. Seventh Avenue
