Artists will be painting outdoor scenes in Gadsden County this week as part of the annual Plein Air Competition called "In the Shade." The event will feature experienced artists, as well as folks who just want to try their hand at this unique kind of artistic expression.

For the first time, art advocates in Quincy and Havana have joined forces to bring the event to both communities.

"The Plein Air Event, May 16 through the 18. Thursday, the 16th, artists will be in Quincy and then that artwork will be moved to Havana Springs Resort for the Havana Main Street portion."

Havana Main Street's Ann Kozeliski said art galleries in both towns will have special happenings in conjunction with the event. Midday on Saturday, participation will be opened to anyone who wants to grab a brush and capture an outdoor scene in Havana.
