A jury duty scam is back. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is warning residents about an uptick in cases.

The scam goes like this. A caller tells the victim they missed jury duty. Then, the caller says a fine must be paid or, even worse, an arrest warrant has been issued and the victim must pay up.

In one case, the sheriff's office says a scammer told a woman that a gag order was in place and that the victim couldn’t call law enforcement or tell anyone.

LCSO encourages anyone who gets such a call and is concerned that they may be in trouble to contact law enforcement.

Investigators say no law enforcement agency will require payment, especially over the phone or through an app, to dismiss an arrest warrant.
