Volunteer attorneys will provide free legal consultations for Leon County’s Promise Zone and low-income residents at an upcoming Mobile Law Clinic.

A Promise Zone is a high poverty community where the federal government partners with local government to increase economic activity, improve educational opportunities, and address other priorities. Tallahassee’s Promise Zone includes South City and Frenchtown.

The Legal Aid Foundation of Tallahassee is hosting the clinic scheduled for February 21 from noon till 2:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Center. Anyone wanting to participate must sign in by 1:30 p.m.

The focus is on civil matters like divorce, child custody, and landlord-tenant disputes.

Here is the news release:

The Legal Aid Foundation of Tallahassee (LAF) and volunteer attorneys will provide free legal consultation for Leon County’s Promise Zone and low-income residents in civil law matters at the Mobile Law Clinic (Clinic), February 21, from noon to 2:00 p.m. Potential clients must sign-in by 1:30 p.m. This event will be held at the Lincoln Center, 438 West Brevard St.

The Clinic offers opportunities for Leon County’s high-poverty community and low-income residents to meet with a volunteer attorney for a free 20-minute legal consultation regarding the following civil law matters: adoption (step-parents), family law (child support, custody/visitation, divorce, paternity), landlord/tenant issues, property, probate and wills.

Established more than 50 years ago by the Tallahassee Bar Association, the Promise Zone Grant enables LAF to offer free legal consultation to qualified area residents seeking aid in civil law cases. Other funding and volunteer services for LAF’s Mobile Law Clinic and in-house services comes through donations by a variety of individuals and offices as noted in the League of Justice webpage: https://www.legalaidtallahassee.org/league-of-justice.
