The Tallahassee City Commission doesn’t always agree on personnel matters, but they did Wednesday night. They tapped Interim City Attorney Amy Toman in the permanent job by a 5-0 vote.
Toman had obviously impressed the commissioners in her interim role. Here’s Commissioner Dianne Williams-Cox, followed by Commissioner Jeremy Matlow.
“So far, when I’ve reached out to you, you’ve been more than able to provide what is needed," said Williams-Cox. "I look forward to continuing that. And you know what our conversation has been. I’m counting on you.”
“Going through the interviews, you just rose to the top, and did such an exceptional job on your answers," said Matlow. "So, congratulations.”
Commissioners applauded not only Toman but all the members of the city’s legal office, who were present for the vote.
“I really don’t have anything else to say other than to, again, thank you for entrusting me with this honor," said Toman. "I really look forward to serving the city and, again, to working with that incredible staff that you just pointed out, to continue to do exemplary legal work.”
The resignation of Toman’s predecessor, Cassandra Jackson, had come at a time of conflict among city leaders.
Toman earned her undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Boston College and her law degree from Loyola University of Chicago. She also holds a Certified Public Manager designation from Florida State University.
