What began as a hobby has become a booming business for a Tallahassee couple. Erin and Kenny Ayers have found a way to turn beachcombing into bucks.

Kenny Ayers said it all began as he and Erin collected interesting items they found washed up on the beach near their Panhandle cottage. Before long, Kenny was creating holiday trees out of driftwood while Erin was handpainting seasonal images on shells.

"My wife makes these oyster shells and I collect driftwood at our beach house at Cape San Blas. I used to catch a bit of the devil for doing it, but now she loves me for it. So I go down there and collect wood and bring it back and make these guys and it's a lot of fun.

The Ayers have turned their collecting and crafting into a business and are selling their creations online and at various vendor locations around Tallahassee.
