A long-awaited fifth arrest has been made in the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel.

Donna Adelson was arrested Monday night, one week after her son Charlie Adelson was convicted of first degree murder and other charges for his role in masterminding the murder-for-hire plot. The case will go before a grand jury where State Attorney Jack Campbell says he will press for the same charges.

Campbell told WFSU that Adelson and her husband Harvey had one-way plane tickets to Vietnam that were purchased earlier in the day.

“We started checking how hard—if they go—would it be to try to get them back and after having those conversations, we expedited our timeline," for her arrest, Campbell said.

Vietnam does not have any extradition agreements with the United States.

Adelson was taken into custody at Miami International Airport as she was boarding the jetway to the plane on an out-of-county warrant, meaning the charges are for a crime committed elsewhere.

Adelson’s daughter was in a custody fight with Markel when he was shot in his Betton Hills garage in the summer of 2014.

Two hired hitmen and a third conspirator were also convicted.

Harvey Adelson was allowed to leave, and Campbell says he does not know where Harvey went. No timeline was given for when Donna Adelson will be transported to Leon County.
