An evening of acoustic melodies will be held Thursday, Oct. 26 at Shiloh Farm in Tallahassee to raise money for the IMPACT Foundation.

The group’s mission is to help those with special needs live as independently as possible.

IMPACT Tallahassee has gone through some name changes since the school opened in 2006. But it has always provided educational resources and therapy services.

“My role at IMPACT is to teach the students to reach their full potential based on their individuality. It’s a great atmosphere,” says Ma’Kayalla Frinkley, who teaches upper elementary.

The facility on Hermitage Boulevard now accommodates students from 6 weeks old to 22 years old.

"We’re really a one stop shop from the very first signs of a child needing special therapeutic and educational services. We serve folks with all abilities and conditions.”

For Development Director Kayla Kolka, it’s a family affair. Her father, Kevin Kolka, is the CEO of IMPACT Tallahassee, which encompasses a preschool, academy, and a variety of therapeutic services.

Kayla's youngest brother Kason has Down Syndrome.

"He just turned 21 in July, and this is his last school year with IMPACT. He's grown close with all of the teachers, and what's really great is that he's able to get that individualized attention, just like all of our other students."

Another family member, Karson Kolka, is the event organizer.

"We have performers like Shift 8, Dickie + The Porch Party Pickers, Walker’s Crossing, and Tobacco Road Band. We also have tons of live auction and raffle items such as a private bourbon tasting in your home, tickets to the Florida State - Miami game, which is sold out.”

The funds raised will help support the creation of a campus comprised of local businesses and educational opportunities -- to help those with special needs learn life skills.
