Leon County deputies say they've arrested a serial shoplifter

A man is under arrest for a series of shoplifting cases at home improvement stores around Tallahassee over the last two months.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says businesses reported four incidents where a male suspect made off with high-value equipment. Stolen items included chainsaws, weed eaters, and ceiling fans.

LCSO says 45-year-old Jesse Harden was arrested Tuesday. Detectives say he admitted to stealing the property and being involved in other thefts. Charges include grand theft and possession of a controlled substance.

Harden is also facing unrelated charges, including Failure to Appear for a Hit and Run Involving a Crash.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) announces a breakthrough in the investigation of multiple shoplifting cases at various home improvement stores between August and September 2023.

During this period, the businesses reported four separate incidents where a male suspect made off with high-value home and yard equipment, including chainsaws, backpack blowers, ceiling fans, heaters, and numerous weed eaters.

Through diligent investigative efforts, LCSO detectives identified 45-year-old Jesse Harden as the suspect responsible for these thefts. Multiple grand theft warrants were subsequently issued for Harden's arrest.

On Tuesday, September 26th, Harden was located and apprehended on the outstanding warrants.

During his interview with detectives, Harden admitted to stealing the property and being involved in other thefts.

Harden was arrested and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility. He is also facing unrelated charges, which include Failure to Appear for Driving While License Suspended and Failure to Appear for Hit and Run Involving a Crash.
