Leon County High School in Tallahassee, Fla.

Former Leon High School volleyball coach Angela Strickland was removed from that position due to ethics violations. That’s from a report issued by the Leon County School District.

The violations stem from two incidents over the last several years. According to the report, during the 2017-2018 school year Strickland used an obituary from a student’s recently deceased father to shame the student over her volleyball performance. A similar incident occurred again in 2021 with another student. Both students told investigators they remain traumatized by it. The reports were validated by witnesses.

The report does not say whether the students are related.

Strickland was removed as volleyball coach but remains on staff at Leon as a physical education teacher. She is the second coach to be removed after a complaint—the district removed Chiles’ now-former head football coach for ethics violations after a complaint was filed.
