Berneice Cox will continue to serve as the CEO of the United Way of the Big Bend. She has rescinded the resignation announcement she made in early May.
Back then, Cox said she planned to leave in three months after more than three years of 60 and 70 hour workweeks. She has now told the organization's board she'll stay on, but under different circumstances.
"They asked me if I would continue. We talked about what that would look like. After several discussions we reached an agreement."
Which was that the board would provide Cox with more staff support so she could spend less time on daily operations and more time doing strategic planning and other CEO-type duties. Non-profits have struggled in recentg years with high staff turnovers and the United Way has been hit by that as well. Cox said she's grateful for the addtional help.
"Those that are in non-profits listening to this know that we'll always wear multiple hats. I've just been given the green light to take a couple of those off."
Cox has held the regional United Way's top job since late 2019. The organization serves human service agencies in Leon and seven surrounding counties.
