Very few Tallahassee businesses have lasted more than 50 years under original ownership. But a local store was celebrating its 60th anniversary on Saturday, April 22nd. That store is the Tasty Pastry Bakery on Market Street, where the Cross family, headed by Mark Cross, strives to keep their vast clientele happy.

"One thing, I think, is using the original recipes that my dad started the bakery with in 1963. And you can taste that in our products," he explained in response to the question how his modest enterprise had been able to compete with much larger baked goods purveyors for so many years.

But Cross also said the store has also expanded its product line to keep abreast of changes in the marketplace.

"We do casserole meal deals, we do savory items, we have quiche and breakfast sandwiches (like) sausage biscuits."

And Cross hoped the family can keep the Tasty Pastry name going for another 60 years.
