A man is under arrest after a body was found Saturday behind a shopping plaza in the 3800 block of North Monroe Street. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) says deputies responded to a wooded area that was determined to be a transient camp.

A knife was recovered, and after interviewing several witnesses, detectives identified 29-year-old Dusty McDonald as a suspect. He was quickly found at a home nearby on Crowder Road, where he was arrested for murder.

LCSO says the investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is pending. Anyone with information is asked to call the LCSO Violent Crimes Unit at 850-606-3300 or remain anonymous by calling Crimestoppers at 850-574-TIPS.

In June, the Leon County Sheriff's Office launched the Homeless Outreach Street team (HOST) to help reduce the number of unsheltered individuals. The team goes to encampment sites and offers resources and relocation services. HOST receives referrals from the community and can be contacted at 850-606-3300.
