Since 1947, the Toys For Tots program has been providing holiday presents to kids who might otherwise go without. The Capital City's regional toy drive was off to a quick start the first evening in December with a gala at T
allahassee's Goodwood Museum and Gardens.
As hundreds of guests arrived with unwrapped gifts, Event Coordinator Lisa Roddi emphasized that children all over the region will benefit.
"Not just Leon County, but it's Wakulla, Franklin, Jefferson and several counties in this area."
Even though the big holiday is now only weeks away, Mark Dickieson, the campaign coordinator for the local Marine Corps Reserve unit, said more toys are more than welcome.
"At the Tallahassee campaign site, they can pull up 'donate a toy' and it will give a list of where all the drop-offs are. But I can tell you that all the Moe's Southwest Grills, all the First Commerce Credit Unions and all the Walgreen's have boxes."
Last year, the regional Toys For Tots provide nearly 9,000 gifts to more than 3,000 children.
