Tallahassee's insatiable appetite for Greek food was on obvious display over the weekend. Ideal weather helped draw tens-of-thousands of celebrants to the city's annual Greek Food Festival at Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church on Phillips Road.
Today's world may seemed roiled with conflict, political division and strife. But Holy Mother of God's Presiding Priest Father Robert O'Loughlin believed much could be solved if folks would just kick back with a few gyros and baklava.
"The Greeks have an ethos that intertwines the food and the culture with the faith and the tradition that transcends all political boundaries. We say the ethos is first and foremost about love; 'agape,' that we can't get enough of," he smiled.
And the church grounds remained packed all day Friday and Saturday with people loving the many varieties of Greek cuisine, shopping in the market place and enjoying the Greek music and dancing. It certainly seemed a tangible exercise of the agape principle.
