Another person convicted in the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel will be sentenced today. Katherine Magbanua was found guilty in May of first degree murder as well as conspiracy and solicitation to commit murder. Magbanua was convicted in a retrial after her first trial ended with the jury deadlocked 10 - 2.

Markel was shot in his car in the garage of his Betton Hills neighborhood home in 2014. Prosecutors say he was killed in a murder-for-hire plot as he battled his ex-wife for custody of their two children.

The two hired hitmen, Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera, are already in prison. Magbanua was accused of acting as the go-between for them and Charlie Adelson, Markel’s ex-brother-in-law.

Adelson is also scheduled to be in a Leon County courtroom this morning for a case management hearing. He’s accused of paying for the murder and is awaiting trial on the same charges.
