Tallahassee law enforcement and members of the community said goodbye to fallen police officer Christopher Fariello Wednesday morning.

Fariello died last week when a fleeing suspect turned against traffic and crashed into his police vehicle. Officer McKenna Zweydorff, who was one of Fariello’s close friends, spoke during the memorial service at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.

Zweydorff said Fariello happened to be in the area as a Leon County Sheriff's deputy pursued a shooting suspect.

“There was no hesitation from Chris in joining the lone deputy in that pursuit," Zweydorff said.

Zweydorff called the incident a “nightmare,” but she said everyone involved responded correctly, adding that Fariello would have been proud.

"And most importantly everyone has been there for one another after tragedy has struck," Zweydorff said. "We have been closer and checked in on one another now more than ever. And I know, had it happened to someone else, Chris would be right here with us doing what we're doing now."
