Multiple Memorial Day services marked the occasion in Tallahassee. Sauls-Bridges Post 13 American Legion had its traditional ceremony in the veteran's corner of the city’s Oakland Cemetery. Post Commander Val Frailey officiated.
“We’re here to honor those who didn’t come home and they’re the true heroes. And we honor those who did come home and now lay alongside. And that’s what we’re doing.”
At the tiny VFW Post 3308 Cemetery near the airport, Tallahassee National Cemetery Director Raymond Miller said, as the pandemic recedes, Memorial Day has regained its historic significance.
“Without large public ceremonies for Memorial Day over the past years, our ability to recognize our fallen heroes was limited. Thankfully, we are now past that.”
The city’s Greenwood Cemetery was also the site of a salute to our nation’s fallen service members. The day concluded with a musical tribute at the Centre of Tallahassee.
