Fans of La Fiesta are grabbing Mexican food while they can. This is the last week in business for the Apalachee Parkway restaurant that’s been a fixture in Tallahassee since 1989.
The owners, Pedro and Jana Hernandez, say their decision is not because of the economy or a lack of workers. They say they simply want to retire.
They made the announcement on Facebook, explaining their decision to close for good on Saturday, April 30th.
“I know a lot of you are upset at this news, and asking yourself, 'Why?' But the simple fact of the matter is that we are ready to retire, and we want to see what life has to offer outside the restaurant business,” the couple wrote. “We made it to the end and [have] nothing left to prove. Being able to step away at a time like this, when business is at an all-time high, is an amazing feeling.”
“We are so incredibly thankful to you for eating with us over the years, and for giving us the privilege of seeing your families grow up, and being able to know you on a personal level,” they wrote. “Please come see us before we go, even if it’s to just pop in and say 'Hola'… I’ll forever look back on my memories of the restaurant with great fondness, and I hope you do, too.” The post was signed, “Jana and Pedro.”
The restaurant will be shuttered after the last customer leaves Saturday night.
