Construction crews are racing to complete the 55,000 square foot remodeling in time for the center's expected opening at the end of January

The COVID-19 pandemic was especially hard on America's commercial fitness industry. But those involved with a new Tallahassee gym insist that the facility can buck that trend. The new Crunch Fitness Club is going into the 55,000 thousand square foot former Winn-Dixie Store at the corner of West Tharpe Street and High Road. FAMU Alum and veteran fitness club manager Nic Farmer will be in charge.

"It's going to be the largest fitness facility in Tallahassee, but it's also going to be the largest Crunch in the nation. So we've got a double-whammy with that and are excited to bring a pinnacle of fitness to the city."

The interior remodeling is well underway. Farmer said that space will contain more than $1 million in equipment with a grand opening happening soon.

"So we're looking at that last week in January, but our pre-sale launch party is on January 13th."

Farmer said the new gym will employ more than 100 people, about half of whom have already been hired.
