A small plane crashed just before 8 a.m. in a wooded area off Tram Road near Capital Circle.

A Tallahassee International Airport spokesman says the single-engine plane had mechanical trouble, and the pilot was trying to reach the airport. The plane was said to be traveling from St. Petersburg, FL to Columbus, GA.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the crash area. LCSO says the pilot was the only person on the plane, and he appears to be uninjured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
