This is Startup Week in Tallahassee. The event, sponsored by many public and private sector partners, celebrates today's local entrepreneurs while encouraging those of tomorrow. Florida State University's Susan Fiorito, dean of the Jim Moran Institute, gave the week's kickoff welcome during a virtual opener on Monday, Nov. 11.

"Lots and lots of great opportunities for current entrepreneurs, those who are thinking about being an entrepreneur, and everything in between," she remarked in regards to the target audience for all the activities to come.

Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce head Antonio Jefferson noted the area is fertile ground for all kinds of enterprises.

"Regardless of the industry, there's a place here in Tallahassee/Leon County for you to take that idea from concept to reality."

Leon County Office of Economic Vitality Executive Director Cristina Paredes said the was concretely exemplified by the record numbers from a year ago.

"In 2020, we had over 7,000 business formations in Tallahassee, up from an average of 3,900."

And that trend was one that Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey predicted would continue.

"We are open for business! We've got great opportunities and we have incredible people who are creating more opportunities."

Online seminars, workshops, and discussions will continue throughout the week.
