A number of families was stocking up on back-to-school supplies on Sunday, August 8 thanks to the Junior League of Tallahassee. The event marked a quarter-century for the "Kids' Boutique" happening.
The Junior League's Debbie Bergstrom was the one who got it all started.
"Twenty-five years ago, we got together with Leon County Schools to see what we could do to help kids and this idea was born," she recalled.
This year, Junior Leaguer Mac Little was in charge of the shop-a-thon at the Tallahassee Kohl's store.
"We have nearly 200 children today, which is a record for us thanks to last year's fundraising with the Little Black Dress initiative and our sponsors. We couldn't have done it without the community's support."
Each child received a back-pack full of school supplies, plus clothing and other necessities for classroom success.
