A traffic stop shortly after midnight Sunday has turned into a death investigation.

Leon County deputies stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at the intersection of West Tennessee Street and White Drive.

After a brief chat with the driver and passenger, deputies say the driver sped off – running over a deputy's foot and dragging him a short distance.

A few minutes later, a crash was reported about a mile away at West Tennessee Street and Blountstown Highway. Deputies say the suspect’s vehicle was involved in the crash after damaging cars at a nearby dealership.

Deputies say the driver of a Chevrolet that collided with the suspect was killed. The passenger in the fleeing vehicle died at the hospital, and the suspect is in the hospital.

The case is still under investigation.
