The 27,000 square foot, $23 million facility will allow hospital patients on-site recovery.

By this time next year, Tallahassee's Capital Regional Medical Center will have an advanced in-patient rehabilitation center connected to the main hospital building. The groundbreaking took place Wednesday, April 14.

During the ceremony, Capital Regional Doctor and Trustees Chair Jack Atwater said the reason to build an advanced rehab center connected to the hospital is simple.

"In our acute hospital, we do a wonderful job. We really do. But some people need more than we can deliver. What we've done up to this point is to send them to places that are often very good, but they're different. They're not HCA. They're not Capital Regional."

That will change a year from now when the new rehab center opens its doors. Capital Regional CEO Alan Keesee said it will provide a continuum of care for any hospital patient who needs it.

"The in-patient rehab center offers those who've been critically ill or injured the ability to spend more time recovering and regaining the strength they need to lead healthy lives."

The twenty-three-million-dollar rehab center will contain 20 private patient rooms, a gym, a dining room, and 50 new hospital jobs.
