Business was steady at Saturday's Downtown Market opening after morning showers moved on.

Visitors and vendors were plentiful as the amenity marked more than 20 years of seasonal operation.

In addition to clouds of pollen, a sure sign of spring in Tallahassee is the opening of the Downtown Market. On Saturday, March 6, the Market began more than 20 years of seasonal operation as it held its first event of 2021.
The guy providing the live music for opening day has also become a Market tradition.

"Del Suggs is our 'saltwater cowboy.' He's our ambassador and he has probably kicked off the Downtown Market event for the past 15 years," said Director of Downtown Experience Allen Thompson, who is in charge of the Market.

After light morning showers Saturday, he added, both the sun and the crowds came out.

"Our friends and neighbors here in Tallahassee have really embraced coming back to the Market. Our vendors were really excited to see the people come out and commerce with us."

That commerce, complete with COVID precautions, will continue every Saturday through the end of November.
