Pugh says major goals during her term will be to drive the fly-by-night operators from the business.

The new president of the Professional Movers of Florida Association is on a mission to drive the scam artists from that business. Tom Flanigan reports Tallahassee's Gloria Pugh is also the first woman named to head the overwhelmingly male-dominated organization.
Pugh, the CEO of the AMWAT moving firm, said there are around 1,200 licensed moving companies in Florida. Her first move is to make sure those which join her organization are totally honest.

"I'm going to make it my goal to sift through those 1,200 licensed moving companies in the state of Florida with the help of the Association. And we are inviting reputable, professional moving companies to be part of our association."

Another goal, said Pugh, is to beef up state law to better control moving brokers. They advertise very low rates to attract customers, then bring in unscrupulous movers who will double or even triple the charge once they have possession of the customer's furnishings.
