Santa's helpers, made up of Leon School District personnel and leaders of Second Harvest of the Big Bend and Envision Credit Union prepare to distribute turkeys to drivers and aides at the district's Appleyard Drive school bus depot.

The District as well as Second Harvest of the Big Bend and Envision Credit Union partnered to make the presents possible.

Leon County's school busses had some unexpected cargo for their Thursday morning runs on Dec. 17. The School District, along with Second Harvest of the Big Bend and Envision Credit Union, were handing out holiday turkeys to the drivers and their aides.
Leon School Superintendent Rocky Hanna was among the Santa-wannabes delivering the presents.

"We're about to pass out turkeys to all of our bus drivers and bus assistants at all three of our compounds," he said as the recipients began rolling into the Appleyard Drive bus depot.

The distribution totaled around 250 turkeys, supplied by Second Harvest of the Big Bend whose executive director is Monique Van Pelt.

"When we heard about what you wanted to do we thought we should make sure that this happens to every Leon County school bus driver and all of the aides," she remarked to Hanna.

It was made possible by a significant donation from Envision Credit Union and its Vice President for Community Development Kelli Walter, who commented:

"I just want to thank everyone at Leon County Schools Transportation Department for all that you've done this year. I know it's been a crazy year and we couldn't be more honored to supply delicious, juicy turkeys for Christmas this year, so Merry Christmas!"
