Second Harvest of the Big Bend Executive Director Monique Van Pelt knew she was getting a donation from Wells Fargo bank on Thursday, Dec. 10. She simply had no clue just how big that check would be.
It came during a media event at Second Harvest's warehouse in southwest Tallahassee. Robert Bryson, Principal Business Relationship Manager with the local Wells Fargo banks, presented Van Pelt with a big, BIG check.
"And on behalf of Wells Fargo, we'd like to present you with $35,000 and say, 'Thank you!'" he exclaimed.
That left Van Pelt, who's almost never at a loss for words, a bit stunned.
"Uh, I'm speechless! This is completely unexpected!"
But what's not unexpected is the relentlessly growing demand for more food. Van Pelt said about 40 percent of the people now coming to Second Harvest's regular food distributions are first timers.
