More than 570 households are facing eviction in Leon County. While that process has been largely on hold. It's expected to start up again at the end of the year.

Some families have qualified for a federal moratorium on evictions. It essentially paused those cases while many people found themselves out of work and struggling to pay rent during the coronavirus pandemic. But that moratorium expires at the end of this month.

Kenneth Kent with the Leon County Clerk of Courts says once cases resume that process will continue from wherever those cases left off.

Kent says if tenants have not respond to their eviction notices within five business days, their landlords could file a motion for final judgment on Jan. 1. That means tenants could start being removed from their homes almost immediately unless they ask for a court hearing.
