The giant portraits of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Civil Rights Pioneer Rosa Parks were painted by former Tallahassee artist Kollet Hardeman.

After moving away several months ago, one of Tallahassee's best-known portrait artists has come back to her hometown for a special project. Kollet Hardeman has completed a double-mural on the front of the Florida Peoples' Advocacy Center in Frenchtown.
Hardeman, who now lives in Austin, Texas, said she returned to paint giant likenesses of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Rosa Parks on the building.

"I used one of those big lifts with the wheels on them. I just zoomed back and forth. I painted yellow on R.B.G. then swung over to Rosa to put the yellow there. Then I'd repeat the process over and over. So to me, they were just all one wall," she said, describing her creative process.

The official unveiling of the work is Tuesday morning, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. But before then, Hardeman said she has one more Ginsburg portrait on her calendar.

"Florida Peoples' Advocacy Center, they did a KickStarter to fund it and they agreed that any surplus would go to fund a mural at SAIL High School."

But instead of doing this one on her own, Hardeman explained she'll be supervising a team of student artists.
