Madeline Pumariega received applause after she was unanimously accepted as the new president of Miami Dade College.

Tallahassee Community College Provost Madeline Pumariega will be the next president of Miami Dade College. Pumariega accepted the position. She says it's her dream to lead Miami Dade College.

"People come to us because they want a chance—A chance to get—to achieve that American dream through education because we know that an educated society is a civically engaged society, and it is what preserves democracy, and I take that with the seriousness of the position," Pumariega says.

She was one of four finalists interviewed today. Pumariega said preemptive goodbyes to the TCC board during a meeting Monday.
