Brian Welch has won the Leon County Commission District Four Race. He secured a more than 13-point lead over incumbent Bryan Desloge.
Welch says he wants to focus on the impacts northeast Tallahassee residents are facing from new development.
"The folks out here feel like their voices aren't being heard, and we want to provide some balance between development interests and established neighborhoods and protecting quality of life and advocating for our communities. So I think making sure that folks out here are brought to the table and that their concerns are heard by the decision-makers in our county is going to be priority number one," Welch says.
He's also trying to keep the promises he says the county made to build more infrastructure in the area, including a widening of Bannerman Road and a park on the northeast side of the city. Also on his agenda: the ongoing fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.
"There's going to be some budget impacts due to COVID in the next budget cycle, so we want to make sure we do the best we can to protect people's jobs and try to weather that financial storm as best we can," said Welch, who also teaches at Chiles High School.
