Leon County Health officials are urging caution as families begin making Halloween plans this year. The Health Department's Claudia Blackburn has tips on keeping kids safe from coronavirus concerns while still having fun. She says if families attend events, they should stick with people they already regularly see.
"So if your children are going to school or daycare with a certain cohort, a certain group of people that they kind of stick with those people that they're generally with and not start mixing in a lot of people that they're not generally around," Blackburn says.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn people not to rely solely on typical costume masks for Halloween. Face coverings need to go over a person's mouth and nose to protect them against COVID-19. There shouldn't be any gaps in the mask, either. The agency also discourages wearing a costume mask over a cloth mask since the combination could make breathing more difficult for children.
