A City of Tallahassee Utilities lineman prepares to deploy to Lafayette, Louisiana to provide mutual aid to a utility company.

To help in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura’s impact in Louisiana, linemen from City of Tallahassee Utilities deployed to the region earlier this week.

The City says a crew of 25 left on Monday to help Lafayette Utilities System restore power in the storm’s wake.

Heath Gebhart is supervisor of electric power delivery for Tallahassee Utilities. He says the two utilities have provided mutual aid to each other before.

“Lafayette’s come over here twice and helped us in the past. This is going to be our fifth trip over there, our first trip was in 2005. We’ve got a pretty good relationship with them,” Gebhart said, in a video published by the City. “They’re always willing to lend a hand and come over here. They’re usually one of the first ones that call us, asking if we need help.”

Hurricane Laura was downgraded to a tropical storm Thursday afternoon, as it continued to move inland.
