The Tallahassee Police Department is moving forward with its citizen advisory council. The group dove into the agency’s use of force policies in its first formal meeting Saturday. retired Lieutenant James Fairfield explains his role.

"We find that many people lack the opportunity to ask canderous questions. Many people still working full-time in the field will not give them a direct and immediate answer," said Fairfield. "So I’m brought in even though I’m retired from full-time active duty because I’ve been doing these education programs for more than 20 years."

The council consists of 30 citizens from different areas of Tallahassee. This was the first of several meetings the group will have over the next two years.
