In Leon County, voters have been heading to the polls to cast their ballots in the primary election. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Magdalena Demetriades decided to vote in person on election day. She's a Florida State University student who doesn't have any underlying conditions that would make her more vulnerable to the Coronavirus. But Demetriades says she's still not happy to be voting during an outbreak:
"I don't think we should still be in the state we are, and that's kind of on fault of our politicians. So it's important to get out and vote today."
Demetriades says her mail-in ballot in the 2016 primaries was sent back to her. Now she says voting-in person feels like the safer option. Grant Steans, a Florida A & M University student, also shares those Demetriades's concerns.
"At least I know once I put my ballot in the scanner, then it's going to be counted," Steans says.
Steans says last time he tried to vote by mail, he forgot to include his signature, and his ballot didn't get counted. Polls for primary Election Day close at 7 p.m. today.
