With so much uncertainty surrounding the possible reopening of school in a matter of weeks, Leon County teachers have a new online resource for the materials they'll need.

Most public school teachers wind up buying many of their classroom supplies themselves each year. Now with the pandemic and uncertain school schedules, a new Facebook page is trying to help local teachers get ready for whatever may come.
Former teacher Nicole Brown said the new "Stock Our Schools" Facebook campaign began as an idea.

"The genesis of this group started when one of my dear friends Michele Reyes was scrolling through Facebook one evening as most of us do and saw a post from a former high school classmate of hers who is currently a teacher at Sealey (Elementary) whose name is Clare Wolters."

Wolters was looking for PPE supplies for when her school reopened. And now, said Brown, other teachers can share their needs, too.

"The teachers can post wish lists, most of which include Clorox and Lysol types of products, but can also include extra supplies such as crayons, scissors and pencils because kids will not be able to share this year like they did in the past."

Brown said group membership - which is already approaching 2,500 - is now open to everyone
