Two Capital City educators have launched a campaign to promote inclusiveness and fight hatred. That effort includes a new tee shirt and a new song.
Tallahassee Community College Journalism Professor Reggie Grant said he and his pal, Rickards High School English Teacher Paco Fiallos had an idea to promote community unity: A special tee shirt, funded by a Kickstarter campaign.
"The Kickstarter was launched and within five days we had enough money to fully fund it and we've been going with it ever since," he explained.
On the back of the shirt is printed: "Don't be racist, sexist, homophobic or hateful." And on the front is the phrase, "Just Be Cool!"
"We'll put the order in probably August first to have the shirts made and then we get to send them to the people who have backed the project."
And if there's more demand, Grant said more shirts can be made with the proceeds helping local organizations that promote tolerance. And now he and Fiallos are working on a "Be Cool" song to help sell the campaign even more.
