Marchers Take To The Northside As Protests Continue In Tallahassee

Holding signs and chanting "Black Lives Matter," protesters marched up Thomasville Road from Midtown Tallahassee, past I-10.

Marchers were escorted by a caravan of cars, as Tallahassee Police Department slowed traffic behind the marchers, and Florida Highway Patrol sealed off the on and off ramps at I-10 and Thomasville Road to clear the roadway.

The march follows days worth of demonstrations in Florida's capital city. They were sparked by a week that saw the fatal police shooting of Tony McDade locally, and in Minneapolis, the murder of George Floyd by police officer Derek Chauvin.

The Tallahassee Police Department has yet to release body camera footage of McDade's shooting, which was preceded by the earlier fatal stabbing of Malik Jackson - in which McDade was declared a suspect Wednesday.

The officer who shot McDade also has not been identified by the agency, which is citing Marsy's law.
