No Traditional Memorial Day Services for Tallahassee

American Legion Post 13 Commander Val Frailey was keynote speaker at last year's Oakland Cemetery observance.

Tallahassee's two major veterans' organizations have scrapped their traditional Memorial Day ceremonies.
As of now, the solemn Memorial Day service at Tallahassee's Oakland Cemetery will not be taking place. Sauls Bridges Post 13 American Legion Commander Val Frailey said Wednesday (May 20) it would be too tough to maintain social distancing among the dozens of people who usually show up for the ceremony. Meanwhile V-F-W Post 3308 spokesman Frank Roycraft said his organization's observance at the small VFW cemetery south of town was still on for Monday. He emphasized, however, that participation would be extremely reduced. Still, a rifle salute by the Leon County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard would be part of the observance.
