Some Churches to Stay Open, But With Fewer Congregants

YouTube.com

At least some Tallahassee churches will keep having services as allowed by Governor DeSantis's guidelines. But it seems there will be fewer worshippers in their sanctuaries.

Leon County Commission Chair Bryan Desloge expressed worry this week that packed churches leading up to Easter Sunday might lead to more coronavirus infections. But on Thursday, April 2, Desloge was standing with R.B. Holmes, Pastor of Tallahassee's Bethel Missionary Baptist Church who said services would continue, but with greatly reduced congregation numbers.

"We must take this very seriously and to minimize the number of people in the sanctuary and make sure we support this 6-feet social distancing."

Holmes added he and other local pastors were concerned about the recent outbreak in Albany, Georgia when many mourners contracted the virus at a packed funeral.

"We don't want an outbreak in Tallahassee. We know that this coronavirus is dangerous and deadly."

Holmes and Pastor Gregory James from New Life Church are urging their parishoners to attend services online.
