Business Brisk at Monthly Free Food Pantry

Tom Flanigan

More people in the Tallahassee area are in need of food as the coronavirus impact deepens and supermarket stocks dwindle. The free food pantry at Lake Jackson United Methodist Church was attracting big crowds on Saturday, March 21.

Pantry organizer Kim Clayton explained the free food distribution has been going on for the past dozen years.

"This particular distribution is the third Saturday of every month and then during the month, we do it by appointment. So they'd call, we'd set up a time to come be and we give them their food."

Saturday was busier than normal, but with suppliers including Second Harvest of the Big Bend, Clayton said there's little chance the food will run out.

"We've always had a good supply of food. We encourage people to pass the word that there is food. There's no reason to be hungry." Reassuring words given so many current uncertainties.
