Tallahassee Churches Respond to Coronavirus

Tom Flanigan

Although many local gatherings are being cancelled, Tallahassee area church services aren’t among them.

Bethel AME Pastor Julius McAllister said churches like his are taking special steps.

“There are some things we’re doing within our churches, making sure that we sanitize our pews, our doors and our carpets.”

Bethel Missionary Baptist Pastor R.B. Holmes was urging some congregants to avoid in-church services.

“In many churches we do online services, but we want to encourage the community, if you feel sick, stay home. If you feel weak, stay home. We want you to stay home. But if you feel healthy and able, come to church.”

Meanwhile, a coalition of local churches is working with Elder Care Services to provide in-home visits to shut-in area seniors during the coronavirus crisis.
