Temple Israel Hosts 11th Annual Jewish Food Fest

Tom Flanigan

Thousands of people flocked to Tallahassee's Eleventh Annual Jewish Food Festival at Temple Israel on Sunday, March 8.

Among the dozens of volunteers who worked to keep the event flowing smoothly was Meg Burk, who said she really liked:

"Getting to see all the people come and enjoy the food."

That sentiment was echoed by Temple Israel's new Rabbi, Michael Shields.

"I am just excited to be here and to see this in the flesh and all the pastramiand corned beef being consumed and loved as well as all the other Jewish food!"

There was music too, performers including the Temple's Children's Chorus. And arts and crafts vendors, too. Like Mersheh Sherman and his hand-carved cherry wood kitchen implements.

"It has an organic background because these are trees that are right here in Tallahassee," he remarked.

It was the same kind of organic background that produced a Jewish Food Festival with a decidedly southern accent.
