Hail (But Not Farewell) to SAIL's Shirley Cain

Rosanne Wood

A veteran Leon County educator was treated to a gala retirement party over the weekend. Shirley Cain was the registrar at SAIL High School for 30 years.

One of the SAIL staff who knew Cain best was the school’s former principal, who’s now on the Leon County School Board, Rosanne Wood.

“If there was a half credit that a student earned, she was going to track it down and make sure they got credit for it. She was just that kind of person. She took care of the details and she also had the big picture of what SAIL is all about, which is everyone is a teacher, everyone is a counselor and that the school is a big family. I called her the ‘Mom-in-Chief’ because that’s how she acted and behaved and we all loved her for it.”

Still, Wood suspects Shirley Cain’s connection with SAIL may only be changing instead of ending. There’s talk Cain may return to the school as a volunteer.
